DUMFRIES MUSIC CONFERENCE 2020: FULL DIGITAL PROGRAMME REVEALED!
Dumfries Music Conference is set to return next month on 15 – 17 October for their first ever digital conference. The eighth annual conference features a mix of film, discussion, live music, exhibition and workshops – all hosted on digital platforms and all free.
Dumfries Music Conference is proud to present their full programme for their 2020 Conference, featuring distinct DIY themes and a real focus on starting to build as we look to how the music industry begins to recover in a post-COVID world.

On Thursday 17 October, DMC hosts a screening of ‘Big Gold Dream’ - Directed by filmmaker Grant McPhee, the critically acclaimed documentary tells the story of Scotland’s post-punk scene, focusing on record labels Fast Product and Postcard Records. The influential film includes Alan McGee, Peter Hook, Norman Blake, Martyn Ware, Bob Last, and more.
Friday and Saturday boast a jam-packed schedule of workshops and panels with a wide range of experts working in the music industry across Scotland. On Friday, Dumfries Music Conference hosts a Zine Making workshop with Mel Reeve of Glasgow Zine Library, a ‘Found Sound’ challenge, led by Roan Ballantine of VanIves and an artist-led panel discussion on Scotland’s surging Hip Hop and Grime scene. Saturday kicks off with a DIY Synth Build workshop with local artist, Liam Templeton, a post-COVID panel discussion which will explore the contemporary concerns facing the industry and acknowledge the current initiatives driving the music industry ahead. Saturday also hosts a podcasting workshop with Halina Rifai, providing you with all the basics to get started.

Saturday evening will culminate in the DMC 2020 Showcase gig, which viewers can stream live from the comfort of their own homes. This year Dumfries Music Conference is delighted to feature Awkward Family Portraits, Nova Scotia the Truth. Elia Davidson and The Curb.
For 2020, Dumfries Music Conference are also delighted to be hosting an exhibition trail in Dumfries town centre, featuring images from Chris Brickley’s photo journal ’16 Years – Gigs in Scotland 1974-1990’. Capturing a significant period in Scotland’s musical history, the book is arranged by town and venue across Scotland revisiting a huge number of lost venues. The works from the book will be available to view throughout a trail of closed music venues across Dumfries town centre.
